Town Clerk Advice for tax collection

​I have had many inquiries concerning the upcoming second Town and County tax installment due on or before March 31st. Taxpayers are wondering how to come into the office to pay or if we are even collecting right now.  I have asked for guidance from the county, but they have heard nothing from the State of New York about any extensions.  So, in the absence of any information, I assume that the collection protocol remains the same.  The majority of payments are made through the mail and I encourage everyone who can do so to mail your tax payments. Remember, if you are mailing your payment, I use the postmark on the envelope, not the date on your check.   For cash payers, you may deposit your cash payment, for the exact amount only, in our secure drop box right next to the back door of the Town Hall at 604 Main Street.  I monitor that box 2 or 3 times each day.  Anyone dropping off a payment in the drop box, please enclose the payment with your slip in a sealed envelope.  Please put your name and contact number on the envelope in case I need to reach you.  Our office continues to remain open for limited hours, but I assure you all town functions continue.  I haven’t put a lot of information on the Town website about COVID-19 because I feel we have been inundated with information from social media and the news media.   Please don’t forget to reach out to family and neighbors to make sure everyone is doing ok.    Be safe.  David Murray-Town Clerk
